Transfer Window’s Losers in the Premier League
The transfer window in the Premier League has closed, and it’s time to assess which clubs have fared the worst during this period.
Transfer Window’s Losers
Manchester United
It was evident that Rúben Amorim’s squad needed reinforcements, but that hasn’t materialized. Patrick Dorgu has arrived from Lecce for £25 million, but the Dane is unlikely to significantly elevate the team’s level right now. The same applies to young Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.
Meanwhile, the attack has been weakened in depth, with both Marcus Rashford and Antony being loaned out. Additionally, the expensive Casemiro remains at the club, even though he’s completely out in the cold. Manchester United is not stronger after this transfer window, and now the Portuguese head coach must hope that there are no injuries, especially in the attack.
Chelsea
Chelsea hadn’t planned to be active in the January transfer window, but injuries in central defense to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile have posed challenges for Enzo Maresca. Therefore, Trevoh Chalobah has been recalled from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, even though Chelsea wanted to offload him in the summer.
At the same time, João Félix is leaving, despite being expensively acquired in the summer and handed a seven-year contract. It was a peculiar deal back then, and now it’s been highlighted even more. Chelsea hasn’t secured a new center-back or a new striker, which have been desperately needed. Instead, they’ve only signed a 19-year-old midfielder in the form of Mathis Amaugou.
Leicester
The Foxes entered the transfer window in a difficult position in the Premier League. There’s a significant risk of another relegation for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s troops, who have been in very poor form recently. New additions to the first team were welcome, but that hasn’t really happened.
Full-back Woyo Coulibaly, signed from Italian side Parma, is the only new player in the squad. The club’s financially strained position has meant there hasn’t been the means to make signings. Instead, they’ve only loaned out several players. It looks bleak for Leicester.
