£67 million: Manchester United push for a deal with rising star
Amorim takes charge at United
After Erik ten Hag’s departure, Manchester United appointed Rúben Amorim as their new head coach in November last year.
A quiet transfer window
Following a disappointing start under the Portuguese manager, many expected the club to bring in several reinforcements during the recently closed transfer window.
However, things did not go as planned for United. Danish player Patrick Dorgu was the only signing made in January. Ayden Heaven also joined from Arsenal, but he is unlikely to see much game time over the next six months.

Several players sent out on loan
Instead, Manchester United focused mainly on offloading players. Antony went on loan to Real Betis, while Marcus Rashford signed a short-term loan deal with Aston Villa. Tyrell Malacia was also loaned out to PSV Eindhoven for the remainder of the season.

Additionally, there was speculation that both Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo could leave Old Trafford, but that did not materialise.
United change stance on Mainoo
Now, however, United have reversed their stance on one of these players.
According to Give Me Sport, Mainoo demanded a tenfold increase in his current salary, which would see him earn £150,000 per week.
Mainoo becomes a key player for United
The reason behind this high wage demand lies in Mainoo’s increasing importance in the team, as well as his recent inclusion in the England national team.
Manchester United were initially unwilling to meet these demands and considered selling him. Both Chelsea and Bayern Munich showed interest, and United’s asking price for the 19-year-old player was reportedly £67 million.
United determined to keep Mainoo
Now, Amorim is reportedly keen to keep Mainoo as part of the project, and United are actively working to secure a deal with the young star.
Since making his debut last season, Mainoo has grown into a key player for Manchester United.
